Teaching Overview
Trained in and continuing to study the Taubman Approach, my philosophy of teaching is very holistic, however, it is steeped in science; biomechanics and psychology. Through technical instruction, students learn how to create all colours at the piano, how to play fluently and with ease, and how to make music. My students are consistently praised in competitions and exams for their gorgeous tone production, and command of the instrument, all the while making it look easy.
However, the approach taken with each student is based on each individual case. Students may either have casual lessons or ongoing lessons.
I am an open-minded teacher who explores all avenues and potential approaches to reaching a student's ultimate potential without limiting them to traditional and dogmatic systems of training which more often than not, slow or, in worst-case scenarios, destroy a student’s progress.
As a pianist who sits on the ‘Listz List’, I have studied with many leading authorities in piano performance and technique, most notably including Eleonora Sivan and Dr Therese Milanovic.
Isaac is described by his students as a teacher who has a deep care for each student, loves to laugh and have fun, but works hard to ensure each student reaches their ultimate potential.
Students are also provided with numerous performance opportunities throughout the year, including competitions, eisteddfods, recitals, concerts, and masterclasses.
Beginner Piano Students
Beginner students are required to attend an interview with their parents or guardian to discuss learning expectations, commitment, and goals. This interview is very casual and is a process to see if Isaac will be the best fit for your child.
Beginner students are taught through a hybrid program of study devised by Isaac based on the principles of the Suzuki Method. Students will begin learning a high level of technical proficiency from the very first lesson and are taught the principles of the Taubman Approach through child-friendly pedagogy. Based on each individual student, accelerated learning is possible through this approach.
Parents are required to attend lessons for the first year of learning to assist the child in their home practice.
Vocal Coaching (Professionals and Tertiary Students)

Potential ‘Ongoing‘ students will have an interview with myself. If students are of school age, a parent will be required to attend this interview. This interview will determine if we are a good match, and if I am the best teacher for you. The interview is very casual, and is used as a way of getting to know each other. Students will be required to perform a handful of works, or excerpts, which I will workshop with you. Expectations and goals will be discussed
Professionals, Teachers, & High-Level Adult Pianists
Professional Pianists and High-Level adults who are experiencing playing-related pain, technical limitations or wish to expand their performing horizons can undertake weekly, bi-weekly, or ad-hoc lessons.
In these lessons, pianists can develop specific abilities that enhance their fluency, technical proficiency, comfort, assurance, and tonal range.
As students progress in their study of the Taubman Approach, they can begin tackling compositions that were once beyond their reach with ease and security in performance.
Seasoned musicians who possess exceptional technical skills can also benefit from having lessons on the Taubman Approach with Isaac by gaining a conscious comprehension of what may come naturally to them, allowing them to impart these skills to their own students.
Intermediate to Advanced Piano Students
Intermediate and Advanced students are required to attend an interview with their parents or guardian to discuss learning expectations, commitment, and goals. This interview is very casual and is a process to see if Isaac will be the best fit for your child. The student must bring along something to play, as part of the interview process will be workshopping a piece the student is currently working on. Some sight-reading at an appropriate level will also form part of the interview.
Student's at this level are expected to read music well, and have a commitment and dedication to doing the required work.
Often, students at this level in Isaac's studio will experience accelerated learning and rapidly move through from an Intermediate level (Approx. AMEB Grades 5-6) to an Advanced Level (8th Grade and over).
Parents are encouraged to attend lessons periodically and support the student at home in their practice.
